I am Orsalia Lambropoulou, born and bred in the centre of Athens where I also got my first degree in Law.
In 1992 I moved to The Netherlands for post graduate studies but much more came along: love and marriage, world travel, kids, and my first degree in Integrative Counselling. I lived in The Hague for 28 years and worked, interchangeably, in the fields of international law and human rights (International Criminal Court, The Hague), education (British School in the Netherlands), and mental health (Counselling Europe, The Hague) mainly with issues of crisis and conflict, global transition, mental empowerment and skill development, dysfunctional behaviors, stress, loss, bereavement.
In 2020, I was stranded in Greece due to Covid and just like that life decided for me the definitive repatriation. In 2021 I got a graduate Certificate in Psychopathology from Deree College, Athens. In 2023 I completed Master of Science in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, University of Derby UK, while practicing psychotherapy at the bilingual mental health centre ROOTS in Athens.
I have been a professional member of the British Association for Counseling & Psychotherapy (BACP) since 2005 as well as, an accredited Mediator to the Ministry of Justice registers since 2016. I am currently in the process of certification as Educator for adults at the University of Thessaly while working privately as psychotherapist at the Roots Wellness Center in Kallithea and Cholargos-Papagou.
THE OTHER PERSON AT THE CENTRE
In my walk of life through international law, education, counselling and psychotherapy, I have always been seeking the human element in everything. Learning and practicing my current craft has taught me that, from Freud to the contemporary “waves” in therapy, there is some common ground: the understanding and acceptance of human nature: How did I become who I am? I have a reason why I feel, think and behave in a certain way – and so does the other person. Our stories are not the same but our “creative adaptations to the world around us” (Mearns and Thorne, 1988) inevitably meet in the therapy room and interact. On this basis, the relationship, I work integrative with the other person, borrowing elements from person-centered, psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral theories.
I long for lots of things, I do what I can manage. I enjoy writing, playing music and singing. My favorite fantasy: vocals and guitar on stage, with Joni Mitchell…
