My name is Eleni and I was born in a small village in Peloponnese. I started being very intrigued by the human psyche and more specifically mine, from a fairly young age, around 15 years old. I would catch myself observing behaviours and spoken words fairly often, coming both from me and the people around me, and trying to figure out what feeling is hiding behind them. I’ve always taken great enjoyment in having deep conversations about feelings with friends and family members, to the point where listening to someone and actually feeling their words deeply, had become second nature to me. This is the reason I chose Psychology when I had to decide on which profession I wanted to follow, it felt like it was basically calling my name!
I decided to study Psychology at the Metropolitan College of Piraeus, which is where I received my bachelor’s degree. Many of the questions I had, regarding people’s behaviors and feelings, were answered with the knowledge I received, but I decided to go even further in order to learn in what ways a human can obtain mental balance and calmth. That’s the reason I continued my academic career and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Integrative Counseling and Psychotherapy. I found Integrative Psychotherapy very interesting since it combines three separate approaches into one, making it possible to focus on a variety of psychological issues and problems, from depression to addiction to harmful substances.
In the meantime, I was also doing my clinical placement at the Kallithea office of Roots Wellness Center, which is where I learned first hand the importance of empathy, acceptance and unconditional positive regard in therapy and its results. I came in contact with a big number of people and their issues, some simple, some a bit more complicated, but all of them of equal importance.
In this particular moment, I’m enrolled in a program about child and adolescent Psychology, at the University of West Attica, but alongside that I’m also trying to enrich my mind with knowledge and be constantly informed about the newest developments in my profession. The techniques I use in my sessions are mostly from the Integrative Psychotherapy, especially the psychodynamic approach, and they always have as a main goal the person’s mental balance and well-being. In the past I’ve taken on quite a lot of people with various issues, like issues having to do with sexuality, anxiety, depression, panic attacks and communication-relationship problems.
I’m a firm believer of the mindset that our mental health is of equal importance with our physical health. If it’s important to care about our body and keeping it healthy, it’s just as important preserving calmth and keeping our inner world healthy. I can’t even describe the feelings and how grateful I am for the help I’ve received in a personal level through therapy, and that is exactly what makes me love and believe in what I do so much
